Maintaining Your Agricultural Equipment's Parts
Farm work is demanding. That’s why farm equipment is built to be powerful and durable. However, maintaining your farm equipment is still important because it helps the equipment to perform better and last longer. If you’re at a loss when it comes to maintaining your farm equipment’s parts, this guide from Agrivision Equipment can help you get started.
Know Your Equipment
With hundreds of different makes and models on the market, maintaining your agricultural equipment can be more complicated than you might think. That’s why we highly recommend checking your owner’s manual to see what it says about maintaining your equipment. It can tell you everything from how frequently you should schedule maintenance to what kinds of cleaning products are safe to use with your equipment.
The Tires
The procedure for maintaining the tires on agricultural equipment isn’t that different from maintaining the tire on your car, bicycle, or other wheeled vehicle. Try to keep the tire pressure within the manufacturer recommended range. You also need to inspect the treads from time to time to ensure that there’s no excessive or uneven wearing.
The Engine
Many types of farm equipment have an engine. Modern engines rely on a variety of fluids in order to function at peak efficiency, such as oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant. Take the time to check and refill these fluids every once in a while. If you notice them start to pool under your equipment, schedule a service appointment to get the leak fixed. Don’t forget to swap out the filters as well!
The Frame
Farm equipment tends to get banged up a bit, so unless your equipment is brand new a few light scratches and dings are nothing to be concerned about. However, if you notice any damage so severe that it threatens the equipment’s structural integrity, you’ll need to get it fixed.
The Attachments
Damaged attachments aren’t just less efficient, they’re also potentially unsafe. If something is wrong with your farm equipment’s attachments, do not attempt to use them until they’ve been fixed.
